Strong thunderstorms returned to parts of Broward County, putting residents impacted by last week’s historic floods on edge.More rainfall on Sunday was the last thing residents in Fort Lauderdale’s Edgewood neighborhood needed, as they continued to clean up.“When it comes to our home, it’s already pretty damaged, it’s already pretty far gone,” said resident Christopher Kilpatrick, “and, as you can see in the waterline of the house, we’re as ready as we can be and hope for the best.”Some residents said they hope this weekend’s stormy weather doesn’t make things worse.Others, however, said the damage has already been done.“It don’t matter now; it’s all ruined. Vital Flight hosts event for special needs children at Opa Locka Airport

The Miami-Opa Locka Airport was filled with laughter and joy on Saturday at “A Special Day for Special Kids,” an event designed for children with special needs and their families. The event was made possible by Vital Flight, a non-profit organization that coordinates free transportation and life-changing experiences for those in need of compassionate, medical, or emotional support. The event was a hit with the families, who enjoyed airplane rides, food, and entertainment throughout the day. For many children, airplane rides were the highlight of the event, as they had the opportunity to experience the thrill of flying. Vital Flight was joined by Signature Flight Support, Certified Engines Unlimited, and Star Warehouse in making the event a success.“Our volunteer pilots, who fund these flights with their own money, are always looking for other ways to give back to those in their community and share their love of flying,” said David Knies, Chairman of Vital Flight, in a press release....

Earlier this morning severe storms rolled through parts of Miami-Dade producing significant wind gusts. Plenty of deep moisture is in place once again. A weak cold front will continue moving through the Florida Peninsula today and slow down as it approaches South Florida. That in combination with a disturbance in the upper atmosphere is expected to provide enough lift for another round of afternoon and evening showers and storms with most of the activity happening in the Eastern half of the region. By the afternoon (3pm), a few storms that develop could contain periods of heavy rain and gusty winds. Models are pointing towards coastal Miami-Dade county with the highest risk for strongest storms and heavier rain wherever they setup shop. A few showers may linger Monday night into Tuesday, but they should come to an end as high pressure builds over the Southeast United States due to the front moving South of our area. A crowd gathered Monday morning to watch the annual Patriots’ Day reenactment of the historic Battles of Lexington and Concord.Monday marks the 248th anniversary of the battles, which are referred to as the Shot Heard ‘Round the World and considered the start to the American Revolution in 1775.The Lexington Minutemen have organized and sponsored a reenactment of the battle every year since 1971.

The countdown was halted at the 40-second mark because of a stuck valve in the first-stage booster. Launch controllers couldn’t fix the frozen valve in time, and canceled the attempt.
